I'm really fond of computer games.
I try to play quite some of them on my Cube, my PlayStation 2 or on my PC. My gaming social life mainly consists of the Cube gatherings with Jan and Gijs, the authors of the webcomic GWTP. I also suffer from gadget-fever. I love all kind of electronic gadgets. The weirder the better! Although my wallet does not always allow it, I try to be an early adopter in technology.
Technology really dominates my life. In a good way, but still, it dominates my life. To illustrate my point: I work as a software developer, I achieved a masters degree in computer science, I love all kind of gadgets, games and toys, I'm very interested in artificial intelligence algorithms and techniques. Most of the reading I do in my free time, is of some technical kind. As a child, I was always fascinated on how things work. Every time I had the chance to screw open/up a device to see its inner workings, I did. I'm fascinated by the proof of human ingenuity in each piece of technology. For me, developing software is my means of being creative. I can't make pretty music, neither can I sing nor draw nor be artistic in any other way. But with software development, I can create anything in my own way. The room of expressiveness is very large. There are millions of ways to make a piece of software, which solves a particular problem, and I have the creative power to make mine. This kind of expressiveness is the nucleus of the joy in the kind of work I do.
