This site is about me. Me, as in Daniel Palomo van Es. This site reflects my interests, photos and general view of life. I have been active on the internet since 1996 and since the early beginning of my internet saga, I have built several homepages. Some of them were very cheesy, while other far too abstract. In the end, I wasn't really happy with any of them. The main reason they all failed to please me, was the lack of thought on what the content of the website should have been. With the site, which you are currently viewing, I hope to achieve a website which reflects my personality in a better way.
Sorry about that, let me introduce myself properly: hello, my name is Daniel Palomo van Es. I am the creator of this website. My profession is being a software developer. I was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, in 1977 and from 1982 to 1989, I have lived in Mataró, Spain. Mataró is a small town near Barcelona. Currently, I'm living in Leiden, The Netherlands, where I went to the University of Leiden. There I achieved a Master's Degree of Computer Science.
What did you use to build this site? This site was build using: Vim for the text and layout. This text editor is a programmer's editor, which has quite a steep learning curve, it is loved by some and deeply hated by others. The Gimp, a piece of software to edit, retouch and manipulate images. All logos and images where created with The Gimp. IrfanView, a great picture viewer tool, which supports batch conversion of graphic files. I resized all photos on the site with IrfanView.
Some technical information: I tried to make this site HTML 4.01 Transitional compliant as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium. This site does also make use of Cascading Style Sheets and it uses a Latin1 character encoding, which is also known as ISO-8859-1 character encoding.
